The Ark is later returned to Beth-shemesh, and then to Kiriath-jearim (1 Sam.6).

SAMSON dies in the Philistine temple of Dagon, but his brothers bury him in the tomb of their father (Jud.16:30,31).

Israel repents under SAMUEL the prophet and the Philistines are defeated at the battle of Ebenezer (1Sam.7).

SAMUEL builds an altar to God at Ramah (1Sam.7-10).
• AHIJAH (son of AHITUB) becomes High Priest at Shiloh.
Saul becomes king of Israel 1043-
SAUL becomes first king of Israel with his base at Gibeah (modern Tell el Ful).
SAMUEL writes the statutes of the  kingdom (1 Sam.10:24-25;13:1; Ac.13:21), and most probably edits the books of Moses (Pentateuch/Torah).
King SAUL takes the Ark of the Covenant with him in war (1Sam.14:3,18).
Saul's success unites the Hebrews –
"Now the Hebrews that were with the Philistines as beforetime, and that went up with them into the camp, from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan."
1 Samuel 14:21.

Regarding
the killing of the Philistine hero GOLIATH (descended from the refugee-giants of Kiriat Arba/Hebron) by teenage young DAVID with a slingshot (c.1024 BC/BCE): the stone of a slingshot could travel at 100 metres per second, whereas an arrow from the much later developed medieval longbow only attained a speed of 60 mps (source: Kriwaczek 2010:92).

King Saul dies  
SAUL is defeated by the Philistines; his armour is dedicated to the goddess Astarte (Ashtoreth) at Bet She'an.
His and his sons' bodies are rescued from the city wall of Bet She'an, cremated, and the bones buried by the people of Jabesh-gilead (1 Sam.31:8-13).
David is king of Judah 1011
DAVID becomes king of Judah in Hebron.

King DAVID unites Israel politically and conquers Jebusite Jerusalem (the city of Melchizedek in Abraham's time, to which young David had taken Goliath's head).
Although God-honouring in terms of the holy covenant and more, DAVID's political kingdom is not racially Jewish for his elite bodyguard are Philistines (Cherethites and Pelethites, see Zeph.2:5) and a leading general in his army is a Hittite (Uriah).
• ZADOK (a Jebusite name, probably via his mother) and ABIATHAR are both high priests of Israel. (2 Kings 20:25).
Biblical Israel
is a non-racial Israel!
  Note
that King DAVID purchases the site for the temple in Jerusalem from ORNAN the Jebusite (implying that when David had conquered their city there had been no plunder and destruction of the resident Jebusites).
Although denied being builder of Israel's temple because its city Jeru-salem was not at peace (Salem) during his wars, as its name asserts, DAVID is inspired by God to design the Temple and the order of its services to permanently replace the Tabernacle of Moses (1 Chron.28:11-19).
Accordingly, during his reign he accumulates for its construction – c.100 metric tons of pure gold, c.240 metric tons of pure silver, plus large quantities of bronze, iron, wood, and precious stones (1 Chron.29) from his war plunder. (See Sanctuary and Services)

In Jerusalem – DAVID dies, SOLOMON becomes king, age c.20.
• ZADOK becomes sole high priest, restoring ELEAZAR's high priestly line (as God had promised to PHINEAS, see 1410 BC).
