Herod the Great   to  Pontius Pilate

"The stone which the builders [of the nation] rejected is become the chief corner-stone.
This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

A Jubilee Year 36
• ARISTOBULUS III (King HEROD's 17-year old brother-in-law) becomes High Priest in Jerusalem.
Uncooperative Aristobulus is later drowned at a party in Herod's palace, probably at Herod's command. (Josephus).

35
• HANANEL becomes Jewish High Priest in Jerusalem.
32
King HEROD defeats the Nabatean Arabs and annexes Esbus.
31
Earthquake shakes Jerusalem and destroys Qumran (Mesad Hasidim, 'Stronghold of the Pious').
September 2: Near Actium (off North Western Greece) HEROD's Roman patron MARK ANTONY is defeated (with CLEOPATRA who escapes) by Admiral AGRIPPA for OCTAVIAN (AUGUSTUS) in a great naval battle. (AUGUSTUS later founds a city near this naval encounter named Nicopolis, 'city of victory').
30
OCTAVIAN adds Gaza, Gadara, Hippus, and some coastal cities, to HEROD's territory, after confirming his kingship.
• JESHUA (Aramaic version of Joshua, son of PHABES) becomes High Priest in Jerusalem.
In Palestine – A Sabbath year for the land.
29
In Rome – OCTAVIAN celebrates his victory at Actium (31BC) with a great triumphal procession.
In Dacia – MARCUS CRASSUS of Rome's great Licinian family leads a military campaign against the Dacians (north of the Danube).
In Palestine – HEROD executes his wife MARIAMNE in a fit of jealousy stoked by his sister SALOME.
27
January 16: In Rome – OCTAVIAN, at a meeting with the Roman Senate, shrewdly renounces all his powers and territories and hands control over them to the Senators and the Roman people.
In response, the Senate grants him the right to stand for the consulship, and allow a fellow consul to put forward his candidacy alongside him, giving the appearance that the Roman Republic had been restored.
The Senate also grants OCTAVIAN an 'extended' province of Gaul (France), Syria, Egypt, and Cyprus for ten years under his control (areas containing most of Rome's military legions).
In Egypt – An earthquake causes damage to a number of buildings,
Octavian/Augustus Rules
26
In Eastern India – The Andhra dynasty replaces the Kanva dynasty, and rules.
In Rome – Imperator CAESAR AUGUSTUS becomes Consul for the eighth time and his partner TITUS STATILIUS TAURUS becomes Consul for the second time.
Politician and poet GAIUS CORNELIUS GALLUS dies (b.70 BC).
In Athens – DIOTEIMUS ALAIEUS is one of the city's Archons.
23
• SIMON (son of BOETHUS) becomes Jewish High Priest in Jerusalem.
A Sabbath Year of the land in Palestine.
In Rome – Unease of the increasing autocracy of OCTAVIAN is neutralised by him persuading the Senate to make him a tribune, a representative protector of the Roman Republic.
Israel Year 1429 20
In Jerusalem – HEROD the Great (president of the Olympic Games) begins a complete remodeling of the Jewish Second Temple, including the fort Baris which he renames Antonia after MARK ANTONY.
King HEROD now takes control of the Jewish High Priest's vestments.
Cities of Panias and Gaulanitis are placed under his rule and he rebuilds Samaria (Shomron) and names it 'Sebaste' (Greek form of 'Augustus') after OCTAVIAN.
19
In Rome – OCTAVIAN formally takes the name AUGUSTUS ('revered'/'sacred'), and changes the fixed speaking order in the Senate to allow random discussion. He also imposes fines for non-attendance, and limits compulsory Senate meetings to twice a month. (Baker 2006:166).
AUGUSTUS negotiates a treaty with Parthia and the captured Roman military standards are returned. (See 55 BC). The standards are brought back to Rome as a victory, placed in the temple of Mars the Avenger, and a triumphal arch is dedicated.
  17
May 30: In Rome – At the top of the Aventine hill (by arrangement of AUGUSTUS) priests receive the First Fruits from the citizens, for distribution during the Games, and in return distribute to them sulphur, tar and torches to be burnt by every citizen in a private cleansing ritual before the Games (reputedly held only every 110 years).
May 31 to June 3: In Rome – The 'Games of the Ages' is first celebrated in three days of visually impressive sacrifices at the city's temples – to Diana (goddess of fertility and childbirth), to Mother Earth (goddess of vegetation, regrowth and bountiful produce) by sacrifice of a pregnant sow, to Apollo (god of peace and art), and to Jupiter (Rome's patron god), rather than the gods of the underworld previously celebrated. (Baker 2006:179).
This is then followed by seven days of chariot races, Latin and Greek theatre tragedies and comedies, stunt riding, animal hunting and mock battles. On the last day a special song is presented to the citizens by two choirs dressed in white (representing victory); a choir of twenty-seven boys , and a choir of twenty-seven girls.

  c.7
HEROD executes his own sons ALEXANDER and ARISTOBULUS at the instigation of their older brother ANTIPATER.
Herod's cruelty: see 5 & 4 BC.
  7
Some have speculated that a planetary conjunction of Jupiter (signifying 'king') and Saturn (signifying 'Palestine') was the "star" of Bethlehem seen by the Wisemen from the East, to move them to travel to Jerusalem (over more than a year, according to Herod's calculation for his mass infanticide) in search of Israel's new-born king, but this is unlikely for the following reason.
A triple conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn occurs in the constellation Pisces:
  • May 27: the first conjunction of the two is 0.99 degrees apart;
  • October 5: the second happens at 0.98-degree separation;
  • December 5: the third happens at a separation of 1.05 degrees;
but at no point do the two planets appear much less than two full-moon diameters apart, so it is unlikely that they are seen by the experts of the time as a 'star'. (See: February, 6 BC).
  c.6
End June/Begin July: In Jerusalem – ZACHARIAH the priest is visited in the Temple during his priestly service by the angel GABRIEL regarding the coming conception and birth of his son, JOHN (the Baptist).
c.December: The same GABRIEL informs MARY (virgin daughter of HELI, and the granddaughter of MATTHAT) that she will conceive by the power of God, and that her aged cousin ELIZABETH (wife of Zechariah the priest) is already six-months pregnant.
During the priestly Division of Abijah's two week per annum service. Luke 1:5.
Israel Year 1443 6
February: A massing of three planets occurs in the constellation Pisces, when Jupiter, Mars and Saturn come within 8 degrees of each other, which some suspect may have been the Magi's 'star'. (This event occurs only once every 800 years, approximately, and would have had great significance to the astronomers/astrologers of the time). (See: March, 5 BC).
The Christ is conceived!
As per the secondary-meaning of Almah in Isaiah 7:14
.
The Spirit of God anoints Mary/Mariamne/Maryam/مريم, a betrothed virgin from Nazareth in Galilee,
as she enters her cousin Elizabeth's home in Judaea,
and she conceives Jesus/Isa/عيسى – the holy Christ of God.
Luke 1:39-55
  5
March: Chinese records indicate a nova at this date, in southern Aquila, which some suspect may have been the star of the Magi but this does not explain the conclusion of the Magi about its meaning.

  c.5
c.End March: JOHN THE BAPTIST's birth; his father ZECHARIAH is healed of his dumbness when he asserts the child's name as given by the angel, and he is filled with the Spirit and prophesies about his child.
c.April: JOSEPH, engaged to the young virgin MARY (Mariamne), finds that she is pregnant and being righteous decides to (privately) legally end their engagement to marry, but is then told in a dream by God's angel –
"Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
She will bear a son, and you shall call His name Jesus
[Je-hoshua, not Yeshua], for He will save His people from their sins."
(Matt.1:20-21, the same name that is translated today as 'Joshua' which means 'the Lord saves').
NOTE
'Yeshua' is the Aramaic version of the Hebrew name, but which looses the 'Hoshua' reference to salvation.
"Glory to God in the Highest,
and on earth peace among those
with whom He is pleased!
"
(Luke 2:14)
Late September: MARY, daughter of HELI of the tribe of Judah, gives birth to JESUS in a stable in a cave behind the Bethlehem inn.
"But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for Me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days"
(Micah 5:2 ESV)
1.
New-born infant JESUS is seen by local shepherds lying in an animal feeding-trough in a cave behind Bethlehem's inn;
2.
After 40 days baby JESUS is brought to the Jerusalem Temple by MARY and JOSEPH for the prescribed first-born-son offering (the pauper-offering they bring indicates their economic poverty, Lk.2:24; Lev.12:8);
3.  In the Jerusalem temple, JESUS is prophesied over by aged SIMEON and by HANNAH;
4.  And child JESUS is returned to a house in Bethlehem (Matt.2:11).
Persian
Magi (probably Zoroastrian) react to an astrological sign of the birth of a Jewish king and set out for Jerusalem, the capital city of the Jews. (Catacomb depictions of these Magi show them in Persian clothing).

c.Year end: Magi from the East arrive at HEROD's court in Jerusalem to honour a new-born Jewish king, but are redirected through the Scripture prophecy in Micah 5:2 to Bethlehem.
They visit child JESUS in a Bethlehem house, leave gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh;
Warned in a dream, the Magi return to their land without informing HEROD. (Matt.2:12).
Warned in a dream, JOSEPH evacuates MARY and the child JESUS to Egypt (Matt.2:13), probably financed by the Magi's gifts.
See: THE MAGI
  In
Jerusalem – To protect his dynasty, King HEROD orders the killing of all boy children under two-years-old in the Bethlehem district, according when the Magi's 'star' had appeared (Matt.2:16; Jer.31:15). This act of Herod is consistent with his brutal behaviour in March the following year a few weeks before his death.
Bethehem Massacre
Israel Year 1445 4
March 13: King HEROD removes MATTHIAS as High Priest for possible complicity in the destruction of the great golden eagle which HEROD had placed over the main entrance to the Jerusalem temple.
In Jericho, near King Herod's residence – The two rabbis, JUDAS and MATTHIAS, who incited destruction of the golden eagle, and at least 40 of their disciples who had carried it out, are burned alive. This night there is an eclipse of the moon (Josephus Ant.17.6).
• HEROD appoints JOAZAR as High Priest with popular support.
Death of Herod the Great
c.End March or early April: King HEROD the Great dies, five days after executing his own son ANTIPATER (first child of his first wife, DORIS).

Various Jewish factions revolt, but order is restored by the Roman legate of Syria VARUS who takes command of Judea, Samaria and Galilee, crucifying thousands and selling many into slavery.
Rome re-establishes governance and divides HEROD's kingdom among his sons:
•  Judea and Samaria given to ARCHELAUS;
•  Galilee and Peraea (southern Transjordan) to ANTIPAS; and
•  Batanaea (northern Transjordan) to PHILIP.
c.4
In Judaea – JOSEPH returns with MARY and child JESUS from Egypt, but after hearing that ARCHELAUS' rules in Judaea he is warned in a dream and settles in their hometown Nazareth in Galilee instead of Bethlehem (Mat.2:19-22). (See March, 3 BC)
In the Jordan Valley, near the Dead Sea – The Qumran settlement is rebuilt and occupied.
• ELEAZAR (son of BOETHUS) becomes High Priest.
"For He comes up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground".
Isaiah 53:2a
3
c.March: In Jerusalem – HEROD's son ARCHELAUS kills 3000 Jews in the Temple and surrounding area at Passover who resist his rule (Jos. Wars. 2.6.2). He travels to Rome to be formally awarded rule over Judea.
While he is away resentment against Roman and Herodian authorities boils over into anarchy. Various Jewish would-be-kings exploit Jewish nationalism and cause chaos.
Pentecost: Judaea is 'full of robberies'. This is probably the time referred to by Josephus when ATHRONGES, a false Jewish Messiah, and his four brothers caused much violence and took many lives (Josephus Ant. 17.278-284). Many soldiers and civilians are killed and buildings burnt, including the Temple's cloisters.
Roman administrator VARUS of Syria re-establishes peace and crucifies 2000 of the worst offenders (Jos. Ant. 17.10; Wars 2,4,3), and confiscates about 400 talents from the Temple treasury (Jos. Wars. 2,3).
• JESHUA (son of SEE) becomes Jewish High Priest.
The 3 BC date for Christ's birth is ridiculously impossible for those who believe the Bible, for King Herod, who sent his troops to massacre the boy-children of Bethlehem, died in 4 BC, so he was already dead as at this date.
?
September 11: Date for the birth of JESUS according to ROY A. REINHOLD of the Messianic-Judaism sect, using the false equidistant-letter-skip method of abusing Holy Scripture for 'Bible Codes', and so placing the Christ's conception as 13 December 4 BC/BCE.
Professional twisting
of God's Holy Word
The Pharisee HILLEL establishes the legal procedure of prosbul to circumvent the Sabbatical Year cancellation of loans, prescribed in Deuteronomy 15:2. (By prosbul a Jewish religious court can now assume responsibility for collecting the debt on behalf of the lender to technically free the lender from responsibility for freeing the borrower from the debt. This corrupt practice is later canonized in the Jewish Mishna in complete violation of God's written Law).
HILLEL and/or his disciples, also teach that the sole condition for divorce described in Deut.24:1, of 'ervat davar' ("a matter of indecency", i.e. sexual), is to be divided into two causes: 'ervat' – a matter (anything!), and 'davar' – indecency (sexual sin); thereby allowing divorce for anything. By this false exegesis the leading Jewish Sage of his time made the Word of God of no effect, as Jesus later publicly condemned.

Roman Imperial Edict
1 BC/BCE
Caesar AUGUSTUS issues a decree permitting all Jews within the Roman Empire to follow their own customs: that is – meet in synagogues; send money to Jerusalem; be exempt from any civic activity that would violate their sabbath or their consciences. (Jos. Ant.16:162-5).
"Caesar Augustus, pontifex maximus, holding the tribunician power, proclaims:
Since the nation of the Jews and Hyrcanus [II], their high priest, have been found grateful to the people of the Romans, not only in the present but also in the past, and particularly in the time of my father, Caesar, imperator, it seems good to me and to my advisory council, according to the oaths, by the will of the people of the Romans, that the Jews shall use their own customs in accordance with their ancestral law, just as they used to use them in the time of Hyrcanus, the high priest of their highest god; and that their sacred offerings shall be inviolable and shall be sent to Jerusalem and shall be paid to the financial officials of Jerusalem; and that they shall not give sureties for appearance in court on the Sabbath or on the day of preparation before it after the ninth hour.
But if anyone is detected stealing their sacred books or their sacred monies, either from a synagogue or from a mens' apartment, he shall be considered sacrilegious and his property shall be brought into the public treasury of the Romans."

The (hybrid) 'Fourth Beast' of Daniel 7:7 has now fully arrived, with –
•  the 'mouth' of a lion (dictatorial Caesar);
•  the 'feet' of a bear (legislative Senate);
•  the 'appearance' of a leopard (Tribunes elected by vote of the citizenry).

  The
annual salary of a Roman soldier is now fixed at 900 sesterces, with the promise of a pension of 12,000 sesterces upon retirement from the army. (Minimum subsistence for a peasant family is estimated at 500 sesterces per annum about this time). The Roman army is estimated to now consume half the total annual budget of the Roman Empire.

In Rome – The emperor TIBERIUS has an image of Isis, an Egyptian deity with a growing cult in the Roman world, thrown into the River Tiber. The cult's priests are crucified.
A Sabbath Year c.20
In Rome – Emperor TIBERIUS expels 10,000 Jewish men from Rome because of the crimes of four Jewish con-men: 4000 are sent to the military in Sardinia to die of malaria and neglect, and 6000 are banished.
GNAEUS PISO, governor of Syria, returns to Rome where his alleged poisoning of GERMANICUS, adopted son and heir of the Roman emperor Tiberius, is investigated by the Senate; he commits suicide before a verdict is reached. GERMANICUS' widow, AGRIPPINA, suspects TIBERIUS of having engineered her husband's death.
  26
PONTIUS PILATE (or Pontius Pilatus), a knight of the Samnite clan of the Pontii, is appointed governor of Judaea (Prefect – Praefectus Iudaea) through the intervention of SEJANUS, a favourite of emperor TIBERIUS.
In Jerusalem – PILATE orders Roman military standards to be displayed in the city to which the soldiers would offer sacrifices. After five days of protest by the populace, PILATE agrees to remove the standards.
In Caesarea (Caesarea Maritima) – PILATE later builds an imposing temple to TIBERIUS known as the Tiberium. (See June 1961 discovery).

Now ends Year-483 of the angel GABRIEL's prophecy to DANIEL of 490 years for the full restoration of Israel (ignoring the Hidden Time) –
from the Persian decree to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem       to Israel's Messiah/Anointed, given in answer to prayer, as described in the 9th chapter of his book.
Hallelujah!
c.October 24: In Judaea – JESUS of Nazareth is baptized by JOHN and, under instruction of the Holy Spirit, retreats into the Judean desert for prayer and to be tempted by Satan (Mk.1:12; Lk.4:1). (This is the 15th year of TIBERIUS according to the Syrian calendar).
Christ's Ministerial Training
"The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary. Morning by morning He awakens; He awakens My ear to hear as those who are taught."
Isaiah 50:4 (ESV)
So this day ends the 483-years of Daniel's prophecy concerning the coming of the Messiah (7x7 + 62x7) in Daniel 9:25-26.

The angel Gabriel had said to the prophet Daniel:
"Know, then, and understand that from the going out of a word to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem [Persian Decree],
to Messiah
(the) Prince, (shall be) seven sevens and sixty two sevens [483 years].
The street shall be built again, and the wall, even in times of affliction.
...Messiah shall be cut off, but not
(for) Himself. ...And He shall confirm covenant with the many for one seven.
And in the middle of the seven He
[dual significance, just as the sign-child of Isaiah 7:16] shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease [making the sacrifice of animals obsolete].
And on a corner (of the altar will be) abominations (that) desolate, even until the end.
And that which was decreed shall pour out on the desolator
[Antichrist]." (Daniel 9:25-27 Literal Translation).
JESUS
under the Holy Spirit's anointing begins His ministry with the message –
"The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand/near; repent and believe in the gospel/good news." Mark 1:15.
In Jerusalem
JESUS violently cleanses the Temple's Outer Court ('Court of the Gentiles') to protect its function as a place of prayer 'for all nations' (Isa.56:7).

In Rome – LUCIUS CALPURNIUS PISO and MARCUS LICINIUS CRASSUS FRUGI become consuls.
The Roman emperor TIBERIUS retires to Capri, where he spends the last decade of his life.
He is saved from a landslide by SEJANUS, commander of the Praetorian Guard. SEJANUS thus becomes all-powerful in his influence.

In Syria-Palestina – JESUS the Christ continues His teaching and healing in presenting the true character of God –
"...He went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. So His fame spread throughout all Syria (Syria-Palestina), and they brought Him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, epileptics, and paralytics, and He healed them.
And great crowds followed Him
from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judaea, and from beyond the Jordan
(Peraea)."
Matthew 4:23-25.
  c.28
PILATE takes money from the Temple treasury to build an aqueduct for Jerusalem. In reaction, Galilean nationalists (Zealots) are most prominent in the protest. PILATE's disguised troops slaughter them in the Temple courts during their protest.
HEROD ANTIPAS ruler of Galilee takes offence that his subjects are massacred without the acknowledgement of his jurisdiction over them (Lk.13:1-2). (This rift is healed in 30 AD when PILATE sends JESUS to HEROD because He comes from Galilee, Lk.23:12).
In Germania – Roman legions are transported by fleet to fortress of Flevum on the Rhine to operate against the rebellious Frisians, but the Frisians negotiate a treaty with the Romans at the River Rhine, avoiding conquest.
Martyrdom of John
c.August 29: In Machaerus, Peraea – King HEROD has JOHN the Baptist is beheaded at the request of the daughter of HERODIAS (Matt.14:3-11).

In Galilee – Transfiguration of JESUS, as physical revelation of the kingdom of God resident in Him as a human being, and the appearance of MOSES and ELIJAH discussing His coming death with Him (Mk.9:1-13; Lk.9:28-36).
Malachi 4:4-5.
JESUS says to the Jewish leaders:  "All who came before Me are [spiritual] thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them."
John 10:8
JESUS now

The 'cut it down' warning to Israel
warns His hearers that they are facing their last year to produce the fruit of faith in response to His ministry or be 'cut down' as a nation!
"...He told this parable:
'A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.
And he said to the vinedresser, 'Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none.
Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?'
And he answered him, 'Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure.
Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down'."
Israel faces
its last year before God.
Luke 13:6-9.
October:
JESUS, in the Temple at the climax of the Feast of Tabernacles/Booths, publicly challenges the spiritually-'thirsty' to come to Him (in contrast to the Jewish water-pouring ceremony at the Altar on that day), with the promise that those who do will experience the same ministry of the Spirit through themselves (Jn.7:37-38).

Nisan 9, Sunday
April 2
CHRIST's triumphal entry into Jerusalem to fulfil the Messianic Sign (Zech.9:9; see Matt.21:1-17).
JESUS publicly laments from the back of the borrowed un-tamed young donkey as He rides into Jerusalem –
"For the days will come upon you [Jerusalem], when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you
and hem you in on every side and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you.
And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the
time* of your visitation."
Caiaphas gives his last official oracle/prophecy in the high priest office (John 11:49-52).
The report of this by John totally negates the Essene-theory of Christianity's origins, for they did not recognise the high priesthood at all.

Luke 19:43-44

meaning uncertain.
The split in this remaining 70th 'Week'/Seven of the 70 (years 483 to 490) of the angel Gabriel's prediction to Daniel (split at year 486½, with the Anointed cut-off: Christ crucified, *after 1260-days/3½-years of 'confirming' God's covenant to Israel) which now happens, had been completely hidden from Daniel and from all prophets (Eph.3:9) including John the Baptist (Matt.11:3), thus catching Satan completely off-guard (who therefore enters Judas *Iscariot on Thursday evening to get Messiah killed, Jn.13:27).
This previously hidden split in the last seven years of these 490-years opens the way for God's kingdom in Christ to continue in His Church, which as His spiritual Body will then later complete the last 3½ of these seven years, beginning from when the "abomination that makes desolate" stands in the holy place (Israel's temple) given as the sign to Christ's disciples (Matt.24:15), in 1260 days of heroic suffering-witness.

Nisan 10, Monday April 3:  JESUS curses the fig tree; cleanses the Temple courts of trading; heals the blind and lame, and children praise Him.
Matt.21:14-16; Mk.11.

[Caiaphas' long service as Jewish high priest may indicate his profitability to Sejanus and Pilate from lucrative temple trade].
Nisan 11, Tuesday
JESUS' lesson of the fig-tree, His last public ministry, prophesies the Temple's destruction, gives Olivet prophecy to four disciples (Matt.24; Mk.13; Lk.21.).
Tuesday Evening
"Two days before Passover" JESUS dines in the home of Simon the Leper in Bethany where a woman pours expensive ointment over his head. JUDAS ISCARIOT now decides to betray JESUS. (Matt.26:6-15; Mark 14:1-10).
Nisan 12, Wednesday
Quiet day at Bethany.
Nisan 13, Thursday
April 6
Passover preparation, the Meal (Passover/Pesach) and teaching. JUDAS leaves them to betray Him for 30 silver pieces (value of 120 days of a skilled labourer's wages). First day of Unleavened Bread (matza) (Matt.26:17).

  Note:
Satan now enters into Judas Iscariot in order to secure Christ's crucifixion (see John 13:27), thinking this would negate/defeat His messiahship, and not understanding the hidden prophecy of this in Isaiah 53 as applying to the Messiah, or of God's Hidden Time, as also did none of God's angels either (including Gabriel).

  JESUS
now encourages His faithful disciples with –
"...you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you." (John 16:22).

  They
conclude the Meal with a hymn (probably Psalm 118).

  Nisan
14, Friday
April 7
After midnight they proceed under a full moon to Gethsemane to keep the prescribed Passover Vigil as God had commanded all Israel to keep.
"...so this same night is a night of watching kept to the LORD by all the people of Israel throughout their generations." (Exodus 12:42).

2. Before their Sanhedrin
3. Before Roman Procurator Pontius Pilate
4. Before King Herod Antipas

PILATE's recognition of HEROD's Galilean jurisdiction over JESUS reconciles them (Lk.23:6,7).
(Pilate's wife warns him against involvement in the trial of Jesus because of her dream that He is a righteous man, Matt.27:19)

5. Before Pontius Pilate again

The Christ is flagellated...
En route to Golgotha for crucifixion, JESUS warns the mothers of Jerusalem of judgment coming on their city within a generation –
"...weep for yourselves and for your children. For..." (Luke 23:28-31).

At the Crucifixion site:    The reaction of the Roman crucifixion-squad to the events around the death of Jesus cause them to say that this was truly 'the Messiah'. (Matt.27:54).
In Jerusalem's Temple:
The Sanctuary Veil is ripped open from top to bottom, before an empty Holy of Holies (no Ark).
['empty'/no 'ark of the covenant', See: Jewish priest Josephus in Jewish War, V, v, 5].
The westernmost light/candelabra in the Sanctuary (that closest to the Veil) is also extinguished by this event from Talmudic evidence.
But
Pharisee Rabbi YOCHANAN BEN ZAKKAI is reported in the Jewish Talmud to have rebuked the Sanctuary for its great doors opening of their own accord (Talmud Bavli, Yoma 39b) – probably caused by the same power of God which tore the holy Veil and extinguished its nearest candelabra.
The Jewish Talmud however understandably tries to attribute this physical disturbance to their Temple building's 'anticipation' of its coming destruction 40-years later in the First Jewish War against the Romans.

Saturday Evening Nisan 15
His mother MARY (Mariamne), MARY wife of Cleopas, SALOME, MARY of MAGDALA and other women, prepare spices to add some dignity to His hurried burial. (Hebrew inclusive-counting method means that the 'third-day' is the day-after-tomorrow. Ex.19:10-11; 1 Sam.20:12).

2  Christ's Work TWO
RESURRECTION
Early Sunday
Nisan
16, April 9
The Resurrection of JESUS and other believers in Jerusalem area with an earthquake, and appear to many (Matt.27:53).
In this one act of God spiritual rebirth (regeneration) is imparted to the spirits of all believers everywhere (Eph.2:5-6).
"...He shall see His offspring; He shall prolong His days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in His hand."
Isaiah 53:10b
Note: The disillusioned, depressed, defeated disciples, without a change in their circumstances, are radically changed into happy, bold believers. This is the real proof of Christ's resurrection.
The Lord JESUS Himself appears to:
Mary of Magdala, and then to the other women (Jn.20:1417; Matt.28:9);
The apostle Peter/Kephas (Lk.24:34, 1Cor.15:5);
Cleopas/Alphaeus (father of Levi/Matthew and James) and his friend near Emmaus (Lk.24:13-32);
That evening – to ten of the Foundation Apostles, plus Matthias, Cleopas and others in the upper room.
He breathes upon this representative group and commissions them as the sole agents of His forgiveness (cf. Lk.24:33-36; Jn.20:21-23; Ac.1:22-23. Note: not just the apostles).
In the
Jerusalem Temple it is the Offering of the barley sheaf, as first fruit of the harvest.

Next Sunday Nisan 23, April 16
JESUS appears again in the upper room to His disciples, this time including Thomas (Jn.20:26-29).
JESUS' forty-days of intermittent appearances and teaching of His disciples (500 together at one time, 1 Cor.15:6), as He prepares them to act on His behalf after His coming absence, once they had received the Holy Spirit for ministry as He had.
"And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name [singular] of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age'."
Matthew 28:18-20.

3  Christ's Work THREE
ASCENSION
c.May 18
The Ascension of JESUS from the Mount of Olives, to which He will return in the future.
And so His disciples –
"...returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple blessing God." (Lk.24:52-53).

Matthias is chosen to replace the dead Judas Iscariot, among Christ's twelve apostles to the twelve tribes of Israel (being one of only two who meet the minimum qualification of being an eye-witness of the ministry of JESUS from His baptism until His ascension), as the approximately 120 disciples await the Baptism of the Spirit for their ministry to begin (Acts 1).
4  Christ's Work FOUR
GIFT OF THE SPIRIT
c.May 28 Sunday
Pentecost (Shavuot) or Feast of Weeks (7×7+1=50 days after Passover) while in the Jerusalem Temple two loaves of bread from the barley harvest are offered in token thanksgiving.
The HOLY SPIRIT is given to all believers (i.e. Christ's own anointing, His human-relationship to the Spirit is given).
See:
'What Happened at Pentecost?'

So, for Israel as a nation, the countdown for repentance now begins, in terms of Christ's prophecy over the city of Jerusalem.

Very sadly,
years later, ex-Pharisee SAUL of Tarsus, writes with profound sorrow of heart –
"...the Jews, who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to all men in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit.
The wrath of God has come upon them fully."
(1 Thessalonians 2:14-16).
"I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, those of my own race, the people of Israel." (Romans 9:2-3).
"Lest you be wise in your own conceits, I want you to understand this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in."
Romans 11:25

In Rome – Emperor TIBERIUS returns from Capri.
LUCIUS AELIUS SEJANUS, commander of the Roman Praetorian Guard is named as co-Consul to the Emperor Tiberius, but is THEN brought before the Senate, accused of plotting to overthrow the Emperor TIBERIUS, and executed October 18 (See 27 AD). NAEVIUS SUTORIUS MACRO Macro becomes Guard commander in his place
  32
In Rome – GNAEUS DOMITIUS AHENOBARBUS and LUCIUS ARRUNTIUS CAMILLUS SCRIBONIANUS become onsuls.
  33
In Rome – SERVIUS SULPICIUS GALBA is consul.
A financial crisis developes due to poorly chosen fiscal policies, land values plumme, and debt is increased. These actions lead to a lack of cash, a crisis of confidence, and much land speculation. The primary victims are senators, knights and the wealthy. Many aristocratic families are ruined, and Emperor TIBERIUS founds a credit bank.
  34
In Palestine – A Jewish Sabbath Year for the land.
In Armenia – Romans intervene militarily.
In Europe – The original inhabitants of Dacia revolt against the Sarmatian tribe of Iazyges who had enslaved them.
  c.35
In Jerusalem – Deacon STEPHEN is stoned to death by the Jewish religious leadership supported by SAUL of Tarsus in an unplanned violent reaction of the Jewish Sanhedrin (Acts 6:11-8:2).
Rabbi SAUL of Tarsus ravages the church in Jerusalem, almost emptying the city of its Christians, except the Twelve apostles (Acts 8:1-3).
SAUL leaves for Damascus to continue his pogrom there and bring the captives to Jerusalem (Ac.9:1).
In Damascus – Conversion of SAUL of Tarsus after his blinding by the Lord JESUS en route to that city (Acts 22:16).
In Parthia – TIRIDATES III becomes king.

In Syria Palestina – LUCIUS VITELLIUS becomes Roman governor.

  36
In Parthia – LUCIUS VITELLIUS defeats ARTABANUS II in support of TIRIDATES III.
PONTIUS PILATE is ordered to Rome by VITELLIUS to stand trial for cruelty and oppression, including the execution of persons without proper trial (some Samaritans).
VITELLIUS travels to Jerusalem to be there for the Jewish Passover, returns the High Priest's vestments to Jewish control, and replaces the high priest. (Source: Josephus).
• JONATHAN (son of ANNAS) becomes High Priest.
MARCELLUS becomes Roman governor of Judaea and Samaria.

  Provoked
partly by King HEROD ANTIPAS' divorce of his daughter, King ARETAS IV Philopatris of Damascus/Nabatea (who tried to arrest SAUL of Tarsus after his conversion, for his provocative preaching, 2 Cor.11:32-33, cf Acts 9:23-24) in battle defeats HEROD ANTIPAS (who had killed John the Baptist) inflicting heavy losses.
According to Josephus, the Jews believe that HEROD's defeat is God's punishment for his killing of John the Baptist (Antiquities 18.5.2).
Roman Emperor TIBERIUS orders his governor of Syria, VITELLIUS, to capture or kill Aretas, but he is reluctant to support Herod and abandons his campaign upon Tiberius' death in 37 AD.
