First Century Jerusalem
Jerusalem's Third or Outer Wall was begun more than ten years after the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus by King Herod Agrippa and was only completed in 66 AD/CE. It protected the city's vulnerable northern side. On the other sides only a single wall was necessary on the east, west and south as deep valleys surrounded the city on these sides.
The Tower of Psephinus on its north-west corner was 35 metres (115 feet) high and, according to Josephus, from this Tower on a clear day one could see the Mediterranean Sea to the west and the mountains beyond the Jordan to the east.

Jerusalem,
chosen by God for Melchizedec's sake, the place to which Abraham was instructed to bring young Isaac in sacrifice when God forced the lifting of his faith beyond its fulfilment in the boy, this city became united Israel's capital under David who had carried Goliath's severed head here years before, and when national peace was established, as the city's name required ('city of peace'), the name of the Lord was established here under Solomon in an awesome temple.

The
cleansing of this same city's temple marked both the beginning (Jn.2) and the ending (Matt.21) of the public ministry of the Christ of God to Israel, who asserted that it be a House of Prayer for all nations (Mk.11:17).

It
was outside the second wall of this city that He was crucified, and in this city that He rose from the dead, and here His continuing ministry to all was launched several weeks later at Pentecost in 30 AD/CE by the gift of His anointing of the Spirit of God when it was given to all that would follow Him until –
Zech.12:10; Lk.13:35.
together with His resurrected people – He comes again to this city – as it then mourns over Him.
