"With the burial of a donkey he shall be buried, dragged and dumped beyond the gates of Jerusalem."
Jer.22:18-19; 36:30.
In Judaea/Judah – JEHOIAKIM's son JEHOIACHIN aged 18 is now crowned in his place.
Israel Year 852 597
March 16 (2 Adar): In Judea/Judah – JEHOIACHIN, who reigned for only three months, is taken captive with his family and all leaders by King NEBUCHADNEZZAR of Babylon.
April 22: JEHOIACHIN and family are deported to Babylon with 10,000 others, including the prophet EZEKIEL and KISH, the great grandfather of MORDECAI (Esther 2:5-6).
In Judaea/Judah – All gold (including all gold furniture such as the Ark of the covenant) is stripped and the gold is shipped to Babylon (2 Kg.24:13).

In 2005: a seal impression is discovered south of Temple Mount by archaeologist Eilat Mazar bearing the name 'Yehochal son of Shelemiah son of Shani' mentioned as a senior official in the court of Zedekiah, referred to in Jeremiah 37:3; 38:1.
  596
ZARATHUSTRA (ZOROASTER) of Bactria (Northern Afghanistan) begins his ministry among the Achaemenid/Persian tribes.
  593
July 31: In Babylonia – EZEKIEL sees the vision of the Cherubim and Chariot (Merkavah) of God (Ez.1:1-3). His prophetic ministry begins.
See: Infant Sacrifice 592
September 17: EZEKIEL sees the vision of abominations in the Temple and the departure of God's presence from it (Ez.8-11), because of the cruel human-sacrifice perpetrated by Israel to obtain prosperity through their idols –
"And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you had borne to me, and these you sacrificed to them [the idols] to be devoured. Were your whorings so small a matter that you slaughtered my children and delivered them up as an offering by fire to them?"
Ezekiel 16:20-21.

"When you present your gifts and offer up your children in fire, you defile yourselves with all your idols to this day."
Ezekiel 20:31.

"Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: ...It is I who by My great power and My outstretched arm have made the earth, with the men and animals that are on the earth, and I give it to whomever it seems right to Me. Now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, My servant, and I have given him also the beasts of the field to serve him."
Jeremiah 27:4-6.
  588
January 15: In Judaea/Judah – NEBUCHADNEZZAR's siege of Jerusalem begins. God says to JEREMIAH (See Ezek.24:1):
"Indeed this city (Jerusalem) has been to Me a provocation of My anger and My wrath from the day that they built it, even to this day, that it should be removed from before My face, because of all the evil of the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah, which they have done to provoke Me to anger –
they, their kings, their leaders, their priests, their prophets,
the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
"
(Jer.32:31-32).
"Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel (to JEREMIAH): Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and say to him, 'Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.'" (Jer.34:2).
Jeremiah's experience of Jerusalem under siege is –
"Behold, O Jehovah, and look! To whom have you done this? Should women eat their fruit, children of tender care? Should priest and prophet be killed in the holy place of the Lord?" (Lam.2:20).
"The hands of compassionate women have boiled their own children; they became their food during the destruction of the daughter of my people" (Lam.4:10).
But later, he encourages those who believe with God's words that promise a reuniting of the whole nation in their restoration to Jerusalem when God judges Babylon –
"In those days ...the sons of Israel will come, both they and the sons of Judah as well... They will ask the way to Zion...". (Jer. 50:4-5).
"They made their hearts diamond-hard lest they should hear the law and the words that the LORD of hosts had sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore great anger came from the LORD of hosts. As I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear," says the LORD of hosts, and I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations that they had not known. Thus the land they left was desolate, so that no one went to and fro, and the pleasant land was made desolate."
(Zech.7:12-14).
  587
January 7: EZEKIEL prophesies against Pharaoh of Egypt concerning its overthrow because they failed to keep their word to Israel. (Ez.29:1-).
April 23: EZEKIEL prophesies against the city-state of Tyre of its destruction, which had seen advantage for itself in the destruction of Jerusalem (Ez.26:1-).
April 29: EZEKIEL prophesies the complete destruction of Egypt and the exile of its population (Ez.30:20-).
June 21: EZEKIEL prophesies against Pharaoh of Egypt (Ez.31:1-).
July 18: In Judaea/Judah – Jerusalem falls to the Babylonian army.
EZEKIEL's wife dies in their house at Tel-abib on the Chebar canal south-east of Babylon, near the city of Nippur (Ez.24:18).
(This year-date of 587 assumes a Judean regnal year that began in Spring [c.March].
The alternate year-date 586 assumes that the regnal years of Judean kings began in Autumn [c.October].)
August 15 to 18: In Judaea/Judah NEBUCHADNEZZAR's captain of the guard, NEBUZARADAN, burns Jerusalem and the Temple (including the Ark of the Covenant, Jer.3:16) – and carries off remaining Temple treasures.
"The Lord has scorned His altar, disowned His sanctuary; He has delivered into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they raised a clamor in the house of the LORD as on the day of festival." (Lamentations 2:7)
"Your sacred cities have become a desert; even Zion is a desert, Jerusalem a desolation.
Our holy and glorious temple, where our fathers praised You, has been burned with fire, and all that we treasured lies in ruins." (Isaiah 64:11)
As Jerusalem's priests recorded:
"...the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their Sanctuary..." (2 Chron.36:17).
MICAH of Moresheth had previously prophesied in the reign of HEZEKIAH:
"Zion shall be plowed as a field;
Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins,
and the mountain of the House a wooded height." (Jer.26:18).
NEBUZARADAN brings SERAIAH the High Priest and other leaders to NEBUCHADNEZZAR at Riblah for execution (2Kg.25:8-21).
"The king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah at Riblah before his eyes, and the king of Babylon slaughtered all the nobles of Juah. He put out the eyes of Zedekiah and bound him in chains to take him to Babylon." (Jer.39:6-7).
He appoints GEDALIAH as governor of the land, with whom JEREMIAH chooses to stay at Mizpah, the new capital (Jer.40:1-12).
In Judaea/Judah – Governor GEDALIAH, a supporter of JEREMIAH, is murdered by ISHMAEL a member of the Jewish royal family (2 Kg.25:22-26; Jer.40-44). (His murder is still mourned today by Jews at the fast of Tishri 3).
OBADIAH the prophet prophesies the annihilation of Edom for their bloody plundering of the refugees fleeing from Jerusalem.
See:
Map of Babylonian Empire
After this, the Jews gradually begin to adopt the Babylonian calendar. That is, the Babylonian 'New Year' in Autumn as continued today, instead of the Mosaic 'New Year' in Spring.
They later justify this by distinguishing between a religious year and a civil year. Although the historian/priest Josephus (1st Cent. AD) still apparently used the God-given year.

In Judaea/Judah – The remaining Jews under leadership of JOHANAN, fearing a Babylonian reprisal, force the prophet JEREMIAH to flee with them to Egypt where they found Jewish military colonies, such as at Yeb (Elephantine) in southern Egypt.
JEREMIAH continues to prophesy in Egypt (Jer.43:8; 44:30).

Ezekiel still holds to the original calendar of Israel ('first month' according to the source of the Septuagint version 32:17).
"The Lord has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because His purpose concerning Babylon is to destroy it, for that is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance for His Temple."
Jeremiah 51:11.
585
March 3: In Babylonia – EZEKIEL prophesies against Pharaoh of Egypt of their slaughter by NEBUCHADNEZZAR's Babylonians (Ez.32:1-16).
March 17: In Babylonia – EZEKIEL prophesies of the terrible slaughter of Egypt's armies by the Babylonians (Ez.32:17-32).
582
Encyclopedia Britannica reports a further deportation by NEBUCHADNEZZAR in this year.
Josephus reports a conquest of northern Egypt by NEBUCHADNEZZAR and further deportation of Jews from there to Babylon (Ant.10.9:5-7).
This fulfils JEREMIAH's prophecy that none of those who fled to Egypt with JOHANAN would survive. (Jer.42:19-22).
  c.576
In Palestine – A Jewish Sabbath Year for the land.
Seventeenth Jubilee Year 574

Israel Year 878 571
April 27: In Babylonia – EZEKIEL prophesies God's reward to NEBUCHADNEZZAR from Egypt for destroying Tyre. (Ez.29:17).

In Palestine – A Jewish Sabbatical Year.
  561
JEHOIACHIN is released from prison by EVIL-MERODACH (2 Kg.25:27).
559 CYRUS the Great becomes king of Persia under Median suzreignty. See: A Biblical Structure of History
  558
ZOROASTER (ZARATHUSTRA) begins his prophetic work in Persia.
  553
In Babylon –DANIEL sees the vision of the rule of empires over Palestine from his time onward ('Four Animals', Dan.7:1) in the first year of BELSHAZZAR.

  551
In Babylon – DANIEL sees, in the third year of BELASHAZZAR (Dan.8:1), the 'Ram and Goat' vision of transition from the rule of the Persian empire to ALEXANDER and then the four Hellenistic kingdoms, with Syrian oppression of Israel.
(See: Ellen G. White's misinterpretation of this prophecy)
The ignorant objection that Daniel could not have written his prophesies now because they are in Aramaic and include Parthian/Persian and Greek loan words is not to be taken seriously, for that well reflects Daniel's situation at this time. In addition, Josephus indicates that the relegation of the book of Daniel to the Jewish Writings (Ketubim) occured later than Josephus' time and thus was probably a negative reaction to Jewish Christian polemic use of it in the first century AD.
  550
CYRUS II (The Great) of Persia defeats his overlord ASTYAGES of Media and founds the Persian Empire.
Zoroastrianism becomes the official religion of Persia.
  549
CYRUS captures the capital of the Median empire (Ecbatana).

540
Cyrus Monument
The four-winged guardian figure of Cyrus,
a bas-relief found at Pasargadae
on top of which was inscribed
in three languages the sentence
"I am Cyrus the king an Achaemenian"
October 7: In Babylon – DANIEL interprets the angelic writing on the wall to King BELSHAZZAR (son of Nabonidas), and that same night he is killed as the Medo-Persians of CYRUS (II) under GUBARU conquer Babylon (Dan.5:30) without any resistance from the Babylonian armies.
DANIEL would have been in possession of the scroll of Isaiah (as he was of Jeremiah; see Dan.9:2) which prophesied the name of 'Cyrus' below, as God's liberator of Israel and the restorer of the Jerusalem Temple –

"...who says of Cyrus, 'He is My shepherd [the meaning of Cyrus] and will accomplish all that I please; he will say of Jerusalem, "Let it be rebuilt," and of the Temple, "Let its foundations be laid."'
"This is what the Lord says to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their armour, to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut:
I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name. For the sake of Jacob My servant, of Israel My chosen, I summon you by name and bestow on you a title of honour, though you do not acknowledge Me..." (Isaiah 44:24 to 45:25).
The existence of this prophecy may explain why Daniel is immediately appointed to such a position of influence in the new administration.
See:
Map of Persian Empire
October 29: CYRUS the Great enters Babylon and 'DARIUS the Mede' (lesser horn of Daniel's 'Ram' vision), aged 62, becomes ruler of Babylon (under CYRUS).
History knows him as GUBARU or GOBRYAS; darius is probably an old royal title. He appoints DANIEL to his three-man executive council and rules the province of Babylon and region beyond the River until c.524 BC (Dan.5:31; 6:1-3).

SHESHBAZZAR (probably SHENAZZAR, the fourth son of JEHOIACHIN) receives the return of some of the Temple treasure and leads the Exiles home to Jerusalem (Ezra 1:8).
CYRUS's dominions now comprises the largest empire the world has ever seen.

  538
DANIEL's receives Gabriel's message of the period before God will answer his prayer for the full restoration, which he had based on the 70 year exile-prophecy of Jeremiah (Dan.9:2) –
A full restoration only after 7 × 70, or 490 years of 360 days each (= 176,400 days): beginning from the Persian Decree to re-build Jerusalem's military defences until Israel's full national spiritual restoration (Dan.9:24).
(Yet still future because this hides the Hidden Time).
Exiles (42,360, Ez.2:64) return under ZERUBABBEL (nephew of SHESHBAZZAR).

• JOSHUA is High Priest (son of JOSADEK and grandson of the grandson of HILKIAH). But the High Priest's guidance-stones in the sacred breast-piece have been lost (the Urim and Thummim, Ezra 2:63).
The Messiah however will come after 7×69 (7+62) years of 360 days each (the day Jesus is anointed by the Spirit of God as Israel's Messiah) and he will be 'cut off'.
See: Core Concept

In Rome – The foundation of the Roman republic by LUCIUS JUNIUS BRUTUS, in overthrowing Etruscan LUCIUS TARQUINIUS SUPERBUS, 7th king of Rome, in enraged reaction to the rape and suicide of relative and noblewoman LUCRETIA by the king's son (Sextus).
BRUTUS and Lucretia's widowed husband, LUCIUS TARQUINIUS COLLATINUS, are elected as the city's first consuls (chief officers). BRUTUS is reputed to have had the Romans swear an oath never let any man again be king in Rome. The oath, as reported by Livy, reads –
"Omnium primum avidum novae libertatis populum, ne postmodum flecti precibus aut donis regiis posset, jurejurando adegit, neminem Romae passuros regnare. …Compulit ad decernendum addito juramento, fore ut non permitterent quenquam in posterum Romae regem esse."
(Whether this actually happened or not, subsequent generations of Romans believe it had and it therefore affects the politics of this young republic in the centuries that follow).

In Rome – with the city's security under threat from invading forces, the ordinary (Plebeian) citizens lay down their weapons, refused to fight and take up a position on the Aventine Hill (one of the seven on which Rome was built) because of their lack of political rights, which rights are held only by the Patricians (nobility).
The striking Plebeians elect their own magistrates ('tribunes of the people').
Only when their office of Tribune is formally recognized by the Patricians does the conflict (known as the 'Conflict of Orders') end.
The Plebian voting 'Assembly of the Centuries' ('century'=military unit), dominated by the wealthy (50% of their electoral college vote), is also changed to 'Assembly of the Tribes' ('tribes'=regional districts) thereby increasing democracy as each vote now represents a district mixed of rich and poor. (See: 451 BC).
This victory of the Plebeians results in the subsequent famous Roman logo on all military standards SPQR ('Senatus Populusque Romanus').
