Thus, helping to create the climate and motivation for future Nazi racist ideology. Wilhelm Schallmeyer wins first prize, interpreting culture society, morality, and 'right' and 'wrong' in terms of the struggle for survival. Dr. Alfred Ploetz, endorses his essay and supports the superiority of the Caucasian race from which, of course he excepted the Jews' while the Aryans are claimed as the apex of racial perfection. He suggests that in times of war in order to preserve the race, only racially inferior persons should be sent to the front. As the soldiers in the front lines are usually the ones who are killed, this would preserve the purer part of the race from being unnecessarily weakened. He further suggests that a panel of Doctors be present at the birth of each child to judge whether the child was fit enough to live, and, if not, kill it.

South Africa – British Concentration Camps in the Anglo-Boer War now contain 104,189 women, children and old men in the Transvaal and Orange Free State, the two Afrikaner republics attacked by Britain in its attempt to control the Southern Africa region. Although presented by Britain as 'voluntary refugee camps' they contained imprisoned Afrikaner (Boer) rural families whom the authorities believed may have relatives fighting the guerrilla war against British occupation and the burning of their farms.

The outbreak of disease and epidemics among prisoners in these camps appears to be promoted by the lack of sanitary facilities: the Bloemfontein concentration camp has only 13 toilets for more than 3,500 people; the Aliwal North camp has one toilet for every 170 people.

In its cartoon the Old Glory drapes an American shield on which a vulture replaces the bald eagle and its caption reads: "Criminals because they were born ten years before we [the US] took the Philippines."
In the Philippines – During its 3-year war which now ends, U.S. attacks into the countryside often included scorched earth campaigns where entire villages were burned and destroyed, torture (water cure) and the concentration of civilians into "protected zones" (concentration camps). Many of the civilian casualties also resulted from disease and famine; and 'reports' of the execution of U.S. soldiers taken prisoner led to savage reprisals by American forces. Many American officers and soldiers called the war a "nigger killing business" exposing an essentially racist attitude.

"The danger to which the Arabs are allegedly exposed as a result of Jewish work is imaginary, not real. The penetration into Semitic countries in general and into Palestine in particular of a Semitic race will result in no danger to the [Palestinian] Arabs. On the contrary, it will contribute to its vigour and to its inherent strength. We Jews shall not thrust ourselves as alien growth upon the body politic of the Arabs, as many extreme nationalists believe, but we shall form a beautiful ring in the chain of the United Arab Confederation. The Arab Confederation does not alarm us." |
