In Palestine – The Israel-Palestine conflict continues ...
Thursday 15: In the Negev – Four Israeli crop-spraying aircraft spray a powerful herbicide on Bedouin crop fields of the Araqib tribe. It is the third time the Araqib's crops had been sprayed in the past two years by a government agency, the Israel Lands Authority. About 400 sheep are known to have miscarried as a result of crop spraying. There are some 70,000 other Beduin living in 45 communities, which Israel refuses to recognise. In 2002 the World Zionist Organisation (WZO) announced plans to start building settlements to bring 350,000 Jewish immigrants to the Galilee and the Negev, the first time the WZO has funded Jewish settlements outside the occupied Palestinian territories in 26 years. |

| "The |
plan is little more than ethnic cleansing," said ABU KAFF, who lives in one of the 45 threatened Bedouin villages, Umbatin. "The government says it cannot build the infrastructure for our communities because they are remote and then replaces them with even more scattered Jewish settlements." Thursday 29: In Israel – prisoners are exchanged with Hezbollah Anglican archbishop of Canterbury, ROWAN WILLIAMS, visits YASER ARAFAT and describes Israel's oppressive 'security wall' as a "symbol of despair". Five MD-500 helicopters were transferred from U.S. Air Force surplus to Israel as part of Washington's military aid, Middle East Newsline reports. Wednesday 21: Israel releases Israeli nuclear technician and whistle-blower MORDECAI VANUNU (Jewish Christian) from prison after 17 years , 5 months and 10 days (more than eleven years of which were spent in solitary confinement, with the light permanently on), for supplying information and photographs to the Sunday Times of London on Israel's nuclear weapons of mass destruction programme at Dimona in the Negev desert, which showed Israel to have the world's sixth largest arsenal of nuclear weapons. (He had been kidnapped, drugged, and returned to Israel for trial by Israel's Mossad secret service). His release from Ashkelon's Shikma prison is subject to the condition that, within 12 months, he does not leave the country, discuss the circumstances of his arrest, or speak to any foreign agencies or persons, etc. (See 1986). Zionist protesters outside the prison shout 'death to Vanunu' as his family wait for him. He accuses the Israeli security services of 'very cruel and barbaric treatment' and says 'I am proud and happy to do what I did', while giving the victory sign to his supporters. He is reported to have taken refuge in a Jerusalem church. (See July 2004). |

Tuesday 20: New Zealand Prime Minister HELEN CLARKE says the actions of the men and those of the Israeli government have seriously strained relations with New Zealand, and she has imposed a range of diplomatic sanctions on Israel, including delaying approval for the appointment of a new Israeli ambassador. In secret criticism of her motives, the United States Ambassador to New Zealand CHARLES SWINDELLS shows his interpretive bias in a confidential cable to Washington saying that the NZ Government saw the Mossad "flap" as "an opportunity to bolster its credibility with the Arab community, and by doing so, perhaps help NZ lamb and other products gain greater access to a larger and more lucrative market"; so imputing hypocrisy to the NZ action. Sunday 17: In Balata, West Bank, Palestine – Without cause, an Israeli soldier fires his rifle from a patrol vehicle into the stomach of pre-pubescent Palestinian boy, AHMAD, passively watching their departure. The unprovoked attempted murder is filmed by an Associated Press (AP) cameraman but his Control Bureau in Israel deletes the footage of the atrocity as not newsworthy. (See Reuters photo left). Fortunately, Reuters' photographer recorded the atrocity even though AP tried to hide the truth. |

Anti-Zionist Orthodox Jews had held vigil in support of YASSER ARAFAT outside the hospital during his illness. (See photo right). |
